Being a college student is hard: it’s basically all about finding the right balance between studying, socializing, taking care of our basic necessities, and… that part that most of us try to avoid until it becomes huge: responsibilities. Luckily, we don’t live in prehistoric times. We have a bunch of apps for college students that can help us manage our lives in order to get the most out of our study sessions and finish college without being broke or completely stressed out.
So, let’s jump right into the 5 apps for college students every single one of you need:
StudyBreak is a pretty straightforward and easy to use app that does its job perfectly. It’s basically a study timer that also helps you avoid distractions by sending you push notifications whenever you pick up the phone or start using another app.
It also lets you set your study/break ratio. So, whether you want to be notified when it’s time for a break or you want to give yourself a break whenever you feel like it, this is the perfect feature. The good aspect, that always makes me realize how much time I waste during my break, is that it notifies you as soon as your break should hypothetically finish. And if you don’t get back to work it sends you notifications that make you feel guilty about it.
This is what the basic account offers and what I generally use and find very helpful and effective. However, the app also offers a Premium account that gives you access to more advanced statistics data, in order to monitor your study sessions and help you be more productive. This is a must have out of these 5 apps for college students, as it will really help you manage your time wisely.
We all know how stressful it is to move in a completely different state, have to make new friends and settle in your dorm room while trying to keep up with your assignments.
While for some people it could actually be a fun and exciting challenge, for other people (especially for introverts like me), it could be a very energy draining experience. Sometimes we just need to wind down and get rid of anxiety and stress.
Moreover, all these changes can mess up our sleeping habits. It’s crazy how many college students struggle to fall asleep at night and end up looking at the ceiling for hours before falling asleep.
Socializing and taking part in different activities is great, but we need to make some time for our assignments. At the end of the day, we go to college to study and we pay for it. I get it, with all the distractions that college brings in, it can be very hard to focus on your homework and be able to turn your mind on study mode.

It actually contains more than a hundred guided meditations covering anxiety, focus, stress, gratitude, mindful eating, happiness, and many more subjects.
It can also guide you through the day as it includes a college collection, perfect for the half of America’s first-year university students who rate their own mental health as poor, crazy right?
In college not only you have to study harder, but most of the times this is the first time ever you’re living without your parents for more than a month.
On one side this is a very positive aspect, as you can finally feel more independent and free. However, we all know that on the other side living away from your parents also means more responsibilities and more things you have to take care of by yourself, in order to survive college.
This also means that you probably have to be careful about how much you spend and what you spend your money on. This is where Goodbudget comes very useful.
How it works
As you can probably tell by its name, Goodbudget is a budgeting app that uses the envelope system, which will help you track your spending and understand their pattern a little bit better.
Yes, there are a bunch of other budgeting apps available, but the reason why this one is my favorite is that it’s very visual. With one simple look, you can already see if you’re going over budget, how much you have left and if you’re spending your money way too quickly.

The green bar shows you how much of your budget for the month you have left, whereas the little black line in the middle of it represents the point of your budget where you should be in order to be consistent with your spending and have money left for the rest of the month.

Flashcards are known to be an effective and time-tested way of studying, that help you study smarter, rather than longer. Over the years, hundreds of studies have proven the effectiveness of flashcards as they help you learn using the spaced repetition learning technique. Also, by writing down what we have to learn increases our ability to remember those things by 200%.
However, generally, we’re not able to take our flashcards wherever we can, whether we forget them or we simply can’t take them with us. That’s why the Flashcards+ app is very useful. I mean, I never separate from my phone, and I know you can’t live without it either. Sad? Probably, but this is the reality, so… in for a penny, in for a pound.
The free version has great features and options that you’d only expect to be in the premium version, such as audio, which can really help you if you’re trying to learn a new language.
The app is great and super easy to use, but sadly is only available for iOS devices, so I’m really sorry Android users out there, but I had to share it for those of you who could get a great use out of it.
I look at sleep as a very important part of my well being and as something that really affects my mornings, so no wonder I consider this the most important one out of the five apps for college students that I’m sharing in this post.
Sleep is basically a fountain of youth and beauty as well as what helps me survive morning classes without yawning uncontrollably in my professors’ face.
We all know that the ideal sleep time is 8 hours, however, sometimes we just can’t go to bed early. That’s probably the night before you have class at 8 am, so what to do in these type of cases? Sleepytime is the solution and I know you’re going to love it.
How it works
Sleepytime gives you 6 different waking up time options in order to be ready to start your day according to what time you’re going to sleep. All it does is create these options based on the average sleep cycle. This means that you won’t wake up in the middle of a sleep cycle, making it super hard to focus during the day, but you’ll wake up during your almost awake sleeping stage.
Last, but not least, it can also tell you what time to go to sleep if you want to wake up at a certain time.
It’s the simplest app ever, but it’s definitely the one I use on a daily basis and that I will probably never stop using, even after college.
