10 Things That Will Instantly Boost Your Mood

All of us, at least once in our life, have felt bummed or sad. The problem is that most of the times you probably do nothing to boost your mood and you are more likely to just lay on the couch rather than trying to change your humor.

My life motto is “Never waste time for something you’re sad for, but do something to change what’s making you sad, or just ignore it”. That’s why, when I’m feeling a little bummed, I always do something to distract myself from that thought and I try to improve my mood and live my life to the fullest.

That’s why I created this list that rounds-up all the things that I love to do and that I find extremely effective so that you can boost your mood like I do!

Take a shower

Taking a shower is a great way to boost your mood because it makes you feel refreshed and energized and it literally washes away all your stress and worries. Also, feeling clean will probably make you feel more awake and confident.

Something I personally like to do before every shower is doing 5 push-ups. Yes, it does sound pretty weird, but I actually read on a scientific study that doing some kind of exercise before taking a shower can uplift your mood even more!

Drink a glass of lemon water

I’ve already talked about the benefits of lemon water in one of my posts (you can check it here). In that post, I explained that one of the biggest benefits of lemon water is its ability to improve your mood.

Lemon water is great if you wanna feel energized and back in a positive state of mind. And there is a scientific reason! Lemon and its juice contain negative ions that give the body more energy during the digestive process. Also, lemon’s aroma has the property of stimulating good mood and reducing anxiety and depression. Water has a great importance as well: it has been proven that tension, depression and confusion scores go down when water intake goes up.

Listen to music

When I want to boost my mood and energy, the first thing I do is listen to music. The playlist I go for most of the times is the “Confidence boost” playlist on Spotify. All I do is sing and dance while doing something else, like tidying up my room, cooking or working on my blog.

Go for upbeat and happy songs rather than sad ones, because that will probably create the opposite effect to that one that you actually wanna pursue.

Workout

Working out is a great way to lift up your mood and improve your overall emotions.

When you exercise, your brain releases endorphins, adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine. These chemicals all work together to make you feel good. Plus, after exercising you’ll probably feel accomplished and your muscles will relax, easing tension and strain.

For instance, I always feel extremely good and happy after every volleyball training or workout in general, and it helps me release the stress I accumulate during the week.

Buy yourself a gift

Buy yourself something you want from a very long time but that you never actually bought for any kind of reason. It will make you feel extremely accomplished, it will boost your mood and you’ll finally get rid of that constant thought in your mind.

Just a few weeks ago, for example, I finally bought the Huda Beauty Desert Dusk eyeshadow palette. I have been wanting that palette for a really long time and finally buying it felt really good, I must admit it.

Indulge in some ice cream

When I’m feeling a bit down I always feel like eating is a good idea. Good news is that eating ice cream really is a good idea. Some studies have actually shown that ice cream is perfect for lifting up your mood when you’re feeling cranky or sad.

It’s even better if the ice cream is vegan, because some nutrients in dairy ice cream are not very good for your body, and could neutralize its benefits.

Drink coconut water

I love coconut water, so when I discovered that it’s actually very good not only for your health but also for boosting your mood I went crazy and started drinking it even more often.

The high magnesium quantities in it, indeed, helps maintain normal nerve and muscles function and can help uplift your mood.

Watch YouTube videos

Every single morning, while having breakfast, I like to start my day watching a YouTube video (or many, it really depends on how much time I have).

Despite all the negativity that you can find on the Internet, there are many Youtube channels that are full of positive energy. Look for topics you’re interested in: you’ll eventually find that channel that can boost your mood with just one video.

Have a smoothie

A fresh smoothie full of fruits is one of the best (and healthiest) mood boosters.

All the vitamins and minerals, plus the good sugars, that fruit contains can give an extreme sprint to your body metabolism and will definitely improve your energy.

Also, can we talk about all the fruit colors? Those can definitely boost your mood!

Take a walk

Last, but definitely not least, walking is worldwide known for its ability to improve your mood.

Walking can help you feel happier because it makes you relax and release stress.

It’s even better if you do it in the daylight because your body produces vitamin D. Plus, you can connect with nature, which is known for boosting your mood. So go out and breath in some fresh air.
